Lies, Falsehoods and Misrepresentations from Boris Johnson to Keir Starmer

“… a man who has said that he would surrender our borders to his buddys in Brussels and move it to the Mediterranean, allow 100,000-plus illegal migrants who have come through the Mediterranean into the UK…”

Jonathan Gullis MP, GB News

Facts

During a GB News interview MP Jonathan Gullis described Keir Starmer as “… a man who has said that he would surrender our borders to his buddys in Brussels and move it to the Mediterranean, allow 100,000-plus illegal migrants who have come through the Mediterranean into the UK…”

As Full Fact notes: “This is misleading. The 100,000 figure is a Conservative party estimate which is not reliable, because it makes several assumptions and appears to misinterpret a recent EU agreement on relocating asylum seekers. We don’t know how many migrants the UK might take under a future returns deal with the EU – Labour has not said what such a deal would involve, or how many migrants it would accept.”

Verdict

Jonathan Gullis has spread misinformation. He owes GB News’ viewers an apology.

Similar misleading statements have been made by numerous conservative MPs and the Prime Minister, see all similar posts here.

We emailed Jonathan Gullis’ office offering him the chance to respond. The email was received, but no reply.

Not Client Journalism

Credit is due to GB News presenter Tom Harwood, who pointed out that the 100,000 figure is a Conservative Party figure, and not a number Labour has ever committed to.
