Lies, Falsehoods and Misrepresentations from Boris Johnson to Keir Starmer

‎”Good news that we’ve reached 10,000 coronavirus tests a day – ahead of schedule.”

Matt Hancock, Twitter

Matt Hancock tweeted: “Good news that we’ve reached 10,000 #coronavirus tests a day – ahead of schedule. We’re on track to 25,000. #StayHomeSaveLives”

However, Matt Hancock’s numbers were exaggerated. Public Health England confirmed the following day that the number of tests done on March 28 was only 9,114. His statement may have been referring to the total capacity for tests, which had reached 10,949 a day.

It should be noted that Michael Gove, speaking on the Andrew Marr Show, stated “We had 10,000 tests” in response to the question “How many are being tested” in reference to March 28.

Matt Hancock’s statement gave the impression that more tests were taking place than in reality.

When we asked Matt Hancock to respond to the claims laid out in this website, a spokesperson said: “This list is false, wildly inaccurate, and in some cases possibly even defamatory. For example claiming that some of Matt’s claims in the Commons were in defiance of the ministerial code, when they were in fact accurate. The priority throughout this unprecedented pandemic has been saving lives.”
