Lies, Falsehoods and Misrepresentations from Boris Johnson to Rishi Sunak

‎”Goods made in the settlements are not allowed to be imported, and that continues to be the case”

Anne-Marie Trevelyan, FCDO Minister, House of Commons

Facts

During a discussion in the House of Commons on the importation of goods from illegal Israeli settlements, the FCDO Minister of State Anne-Marie Trevelyan stated “Goods made in the settlements are not allowed to be imported, and that continues to be the case”.

Ms Trevelyan’s statement is incorrect. The UK explicitly allows the importation of goods from Israeli settlements.

Later the same day, Ms Trevelyan issued a letter of correction. The record now states, “Goods imported from the settlements are not entitled to benefit from UK-Israel trade preferences”

Verdict

Anne-Marie Trevelyan’s correction is welcome. If only other ministers would follow her example.

We reached out to Anne-Marie Trevelyan’s parliamentary office offering her the opportunity to respond. Her office responded saying “Thank you for advance sight of this, as you rightly point out, Ms Trevelyan issued a correction the same day.”
