In an address to the Ukrainian Parliament in January 2024, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that he came “from the world’s oldest Parliament to address the world’s bravest.”
While the UK’s Parliament has a long history, it is not the oldest. Iceland’s Parliament – the Althing – was established in 930 AD. , and is widely considered to be the world’s oldest Parliament.
Verdict
As Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak can reasonably be expected to know the history of his own country.
