Lies, Falsehoods and Misrepresentations from Boris Johnson to Keir Starmer

“Labour plans opening the doors to 100,000 extra illegal migrants from the EU every year. Labour means unlimited and uncontrolled immigration”

Greg Hands, Trade Policy Minister, X Post

Facts

MP Greg Hands posted on X “Labour plans opening the doors to 100,000 extra illegal migrants from the EU every year. Labour means unlimited and uncontrolled immigration”.

In his post Greg Hands included pictures of two separate Telegraph headlines. Keir Starmer prepared to strike deal to take EU’s migrants and Labour edging back towards the EU as it attempts to ‘fix Brexit’. Neither article makes mention of the “100,000” figure.

As Full Fact notes: “This is misleading. The 100,000 figure is a Conservative party estimate which is not reliable, because it makes several assumptions and appears to misinterpret a recent EU agreement on relocating asylum seekers. We don’t know how many migrants the UK might take under a future returns deal with the EU – Labour has not said what such a deal would involve, or how many migrants it would accept.”

Similar misleading statements have been made by numerous conservative MPs and the Prime Minister, see all similar posts here.
