Lies, Falsehoods and Misrepresentations from Boris Johnson to Rishi Sunak

‎Labour “said that we needed a road map to lockdown” after the emergence of the Omicron variant.

Boris Johnson, Prime Ministers Questions

Labour did not call for a lockdown after the Omicron variant emerged. They called for the government to tell the public whether or not restrictions would be coming.

Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting told BBC News that the public were “in the dark” about much of the information. He added: “I don’t understand how it is the cabinet has met for hours this afternoon and has reached no decisions at all. We know that restrictions are coming, so why isn’t the Prime Minister being upfront with people?”

While Labour did call for the government to announce any plans they might have had for restrictions, they did not call for a lockdown. Johnson’s claim was therefore misleading. This false claim remains on the Hansard record in defiance of the Ministerial Code.

We approached Mr Johnson’s office, the Cabinet Office and the No 10 Press Office to give them a chance to comment, but no reply.
