Lies, Falsehoods and Misrepresentations from Boris Johnson to Rishi Sunak

‎”Our plans to deliver 40 new hospitals across the country by 2030 will help us build a better NHS and transform NHS services for local communities. The selection process for the further 8 new schemes is a huge opportunity for more areas to benefit…”

Sajid Javid, Announcement of 8 new hospitals

Newly appointed Health Secretary Sajid Javid repeated the claim that the Government was to “deliver 40 new hospitals” in an announcement where he formally opened the “selection process for the further 8 new schemes.”

The new Health Secretary (who had replaced Matt Hancock 19 days earlier) announced 8 new hospitals as a part of the government’s “biggest hospital building programme in a generation.”

Javid’s announcement was consistent with Boris Johnson’s previous claim that the Government would deliver a “plan for 48 new hospitals“. It was no more honest. Only 15 or so of the schemes announced were new builds – and 8 of the original 40 were introduced by a previous government.

Sajid Javid, having newly assumed the office of Health Secretary, was quick to repeat Boris Johnson’s serial fabrications about the hospital building programme. We emailed Sajid Javid twice to offer him the chance to comment on this verdict. He did not reply.
