Lies, Falsehoods and Misrepresentations from Boris Johnson to Keir Starmer

“… she’s on suspension from the House of Lords at the moment”

Lord Martin Callanan, Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance, Sky News

Lord Martin Callanan told Sky News’ Kay Burley that Michelle Mone was “on suspension from the House of Lords’”

Mone took a “leave of absence” – as a statement from her office phrased it – from the House of Lords in 2022.

However, a leave of absence is different from a suspension. As Huffington Post notes, there is “currently nothing to stop Mone from returning to the Lords.”

Mone was not suspended from the House of Lords, and is able to return if she so chooses.

We emailed Lord Martin Callanan’s office offering him the chance to respond. We received no response.

Presenter Kay Burley quickly pointed out that Mone is indeed able to return to the House of Lords.
