On 8 July 2022, Rishi Sunak announced his bid to be the next Prime Minister. 

Alongside his announcement he released a promotional video, within which he stated “We’ve had enough of division. Politics at its best is a unifying endeavour and I have spent my career bringing people together. Because that is the only way to succeed”.

On 25 July 2023, Rishi Sunak, now Prime Minister, retweeted a Daily Mail article with the caption “The Labour Party, a subset of lawyers, criminal gangs – they’re all on the same side”.

Verdict

A broken promise by Rishi Sunak. He launched his campaign to become Prime Minister promising to end the politics of division. Once in power he used inflammatory and divisive rhetoric. 

We emailed Rishi Sunak’s office and Downing Street offering them the chance to respond. The email was received, but no reply.
